Manchester United Crisis Deepens as Lisandro Martínez Criticises Club Leadership

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has publicly criticised the club's transfer strategy following a 2–0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, with reports suggesting his concerns are shared by several teammates.

Manchester United are facing growing internal tensions after Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez openly questioned the club's leadership and summer recruitment decisions following their Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid on October 13.

Martínez singled out director of football Jason Wilcox, arguing that the club had failed to strengthen its squad sufficiently despite finishing third in the Premier League last season. The defender acknowledged the players' responsibility for poor performances but insisted that the management must also be held accountable.

According to The Guardian, Martínez's frustration is shared by several senior players, particularly regarding the lack of defensive reinforcements. United spent approximately £155 million signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans during the summer transfer window but failed to address several other positions.

The criticism comes amid a disappointing start to the season. Michael Carrick's team have collected just six points from their opening six Premier League matches, marking the club's worst league start in 40 years.

The situation has increased pressure on Carrick, although Sky Sports reports that Wilcox continues to enjoy the backing of United's senior management.

Martínez's own future is also uncertain. The 28-year-old defender's contract expires next summer, and reports suggest he is considering leaving Old Trafford. Following criticism of his comments, Martínez acknowledged speaking out in anger and frustration but maintained that his concerns reflected his desire to compete for major trophies.

With disappointing results, questions over recruitment and growing dressing-room frustration, Manchester United face mounting challenges both on and off the pitch. The club's response to the criticism and its upcoming performances could prove decisive for Carrick's future and the direction of the team.
