Manchester United Consider Carrick’s Future as Howe and Nagelsmann Emerge as Candidates

Manchester United are reportedly considering replacing head coach Michael Carrick following eight consecutive matches without a victory, with Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann emerging as leading candidates.

Manchester United's managerial crisis has intensified following a 3–0 home defeat to Bournemouth on October 25, leaving Michael Carrick's future at Old Trafford increasingly uncertain.

The defeat followed a 4–1 Champions League loss to Italian side Como and extended United's winless streak to eight matches across all competitions. The Red Devils currently sit 16th in the Premier League with just seven points from eight games, only one point above the relegation zone.

According to Sky Sports and The Guardian, United's management has begun evaluating potential replacements. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are understood to be discussing Carrick's position, although no official dismissal has been announced.

Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is reportedly a leading candidate, with Wilcox favouring his Premier League experience. Julian Nagelsmann, formerly of Bayern Munich and the German national team, is also being considered, while Unai Emery and Antonio Conte have been mentioned as alternatives.

The situation has been complicated by tensions within the squad. Captain Bruno Fernandes was left on the bench against Bournemouth after publicly questioning Carrick's tactics following the European defeat.

Carrick, who received a two-year contract in May after a successful interim spell, insists he remains committed to the club despite the mounting pressure.

The 45-year-old arrived at United's Carrington training ground on October 27 to oversee preparations, with the club yet to clarify his long-term future.

Manchester United face Chelsea on October 31 in their next Premier League fixture. With poor results continuing and managerial alternatives being assessed, the coming days could prove decisive for Carrick and the club's attempt to reverse its difficult start to the season.
