Manchester City rescue a point at Everton but damage their title chances
Manchester City came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 away at Everton, with Jérémy Doku scoring a stoppage-time equaliser in a result that may prove costly in the Premier League title race.
City avoided defeat only at the very end. Doku had given Pep Guardiola’s side the lead in the 42nd minute, but Everton hit back strongly after the break and turned the game around, eventually moving 3-1 ahead before Erling Haaland pulled one back and Doku struck again deep into added time. The comeback saved City from a loss, but it did not prevent a major setback in the championship battle.
The dropped points leave Manchester City on 71 points from 34 matches, five behind leaders Arsenal, who have 76 points. City still have a game in hand, but the draw handed control of the title race back to Mikel Arteta’s side and sharply reduced the margin for error in the final weeks of the season.
That is why the result feels heavier than a simple draw. Instead of keeping the pressure fully on Arsenal, City allowed the leaders breathing room at exactly the wrong time. The champions are still alive in the race, but after such a dramatic collapse and rescue, the title now looks more in Arsenal’s hands than City’s.
