Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority donates K10 million to Mothers’ Fun Run Initiative
The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) has contributed K10 million to support this year’s Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mothers’ Fun Run initiative, aimed at improving maternal and neonatal healthcare in Chikwawa District Hospital.
During a symbolic cheque presentation in Blantyre, MAGLA Director General Rachael Mijiga expressed the Authority’s commitment to supporting NPL's longstanding project. "This is the 19th year of the Mothers’ Fun Run, and we continue to support it because of the vital work they are doing. Mothers are the foundation of society, and healthy mothers will raise strong, productive citizens for the future," Mijiga said.
She emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, stating, “The government cannot address all challenges alone, which is why contributions from organizations like ours are necessary.”
NPL Weekend Nation Editor Steven Nhlane praised MAGLA for its generous donation, noting that it will significantly aid efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths. “Our target is to raise K300 million, and so far, we have reached about half of that goal. This year’s program will benefit 12 health facilities in Chikwawa District,” Nhlane explained.
The Mothers’ Fun Run project continues to play a critical role in supporting healthcare services for women and newborns in Malawi.
