LONASE reinforces Senegal’s betting industry with PMU revamp
From February 25 to 28, 2025, the National Lottery of Senegal (LONASE) held a strategic workshop aimed at reshaping the future of Paris Mutuel Urbain (PMU). This significant event brought together key stakeholders to discuss the challenges facing PMU and the urgent need for modernization. The initiative reaffirmed LONASE’s commitment to adapting the betting system to evolving market demands and player expectations.
Launched in 1987, PMU has been a longstanding pillar of the betting industry. However, with the rise of digital gaming and changing consumer habits, it now faces increasing challenges. During the workshop, a team of experts presented an in-depth analysis, highlighting the need for regulatory updates, enhanced distribution networks, and a strategic repositioning of PMU’s offerings.
The discussions went beyond minor improvements, emphasizing the need for a complete revitalization. The objective is to make PMU more accessible, engaging, and competitive in the modern gaming landscape. By embracing technological innovations and enhancing the player experience, LONASE aims to secure PMU’s long-term success while reinforcing its role as a major economic and social contributor.
The conclusions from this workshop will serve as a roadmap for the future, ensuring that PMU remains a key player in Senegal’s gaming sector.
