Liverpool confirm Konaté exit as Salah’s future reopens after Slot departure

Liverpool have officially confirmed that Ibrahima Konaté will leave the club this summer, while Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield has become less certain after Arne Slot’s dismissal.

Liverpool have officially announced that Ibrahima Konaté will leave the club when his contract expires this summer. The French centre-back will depart Anfield at the end of June, bringing his five-year spell with the Reds to a close. Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and made 183 appearances, scoring seven goals. He leaves with a Premier League winner’s medal, as well as FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield honours.

Konaté also posted a farewell message to Liverpool supporters, saying that representing the club had been an honour. He admitted he was sad not to have had a proper goodbye at his final home game, adding that it was time for a new challenge and a new chapter.

His departure adds another major issue to Liverpool’s summer rebuild. The club is already dealing with the fallout from Arne Slot’s exit, which was confirmed after two seasons in charge. Slot led Liverpool to their 20th English league title in his debut campaign, but the club decided to end the cooperation immediately after a difficult second season.

The biggest question now concerns Mohamed Salah. Earlier reports had suggested that the Egyptian forward was on course to leave Liverpool despite still having time left on his contract. However, after Slot’s dismissal, several British outlets have reported that Salah could reconsider his position and stay at Anfield for at least another season. TEAMtalk, citing earlier reporting, noted that people close to Salah had not completely ruled out the idea of him remaining if there was a regime change at the club, starting with Slot’s departure.

That scenario is still not official. Liverpool have not announced any change in Salah’s status, and there is no confirmed new agreement. But Slot’s departure clearly changes the atmosphere around the player’s future. Salah’s relationship with the Dutch coach had become one of the most discussed issues of Liverpool’s difficult season, and a new manager may now have the chance to rebuild the team around different leadership.

For Liverpool, Konaté’s confirmed exit and Salah’s uncertain future show how deep the summer reset could be. The next head coach will inherit not only a squad in transition, but also urgent decisions over senior players, defensive reinforcements and the club’s attacking identity after a turbulent season.
