The Deputy Director General for Lotto Games at the National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Liberia, Hon. Richlue O. Burphy, has emphasized the wide-ranging social and economic benefits expected from the upcoming 5/90 Balls Lotto Games, positioning it as a major contributor to Liberia’s national development agenda.

Speaking during a press engagement, Hon. Burphy stated that the 5/90 Lotto Games will play a pivotal role in the country’s gaming sector by promoting economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and supporting government-backed development programs.

“The 5/90 Lotto Games are not just about entertainment—they are structured to make meaningful contributions to Liberia’s socio-economic landscape,” Burphy said. “From job creation and revenue generation to supporting charitable causes and community projects, these games will impact every corner of the country.”

He highlighted that the Lotto Games will also serve as a form of recreation for hundreds of thousands of Liberians, encouraging social interaction and community engagement while offering players a sense of hope and aspiration, regardless of their economic status.

Citing Section 6.1.2 of the NLA Act of 2014, Burphy noted that the Lotto Games were established specifically to generate lawful revenue in support of social services and national development initiatives.

“A significant portion of the revenue generated will be directed toward social programs, charitable efforts, and community development, helping to improve living standards and reduce poverty,” he explained.

Burphy also disclosed that the NLA has partnered with international operator Blue Star High Tech-Liberia Limited to manage the 5/90 Lotto Games. He said the partnership would prioritize responsible gaming campaigns, public education on gaming risks, and the promotion of informed participation to mitigate social concerns related to gambling.

He further revealed that the operational rollout of the Lotto Games—covering ticket sales, marketing, administration, and logistical support—will open up direct and indirect employment opportunities across Liberia. Positions will include clerks, sales agents, marketing staff, security personnel, and technical support roles, benefiting both urban and rural communities.

According to Burphy, the NLA and its partner have already received hundreds of applications for point-of-sale (POS) agent roles, with vetting expected to begin shortly as preparations for the full-scale launch of the 5/90 Lotto Games gain momentum.
