LGD’s TaiLung banned from The International 2026 and all future PGL events

LGD Gaming mid laner Santiago “TaiLung” Agüero Gustavo has been removed from The International 2026 over a competitive integrity issue and permanently barred from tournaments organised by PGL, forcing the team into an emergency roster change just days before Dota 2’s biggest event.

LGD Gaming has confirmed that 17-year-old Peruvian mid laner Santiago “TaiLung” Agüero Gustavo will not be allowed to compete at The International 2026 following an investigation into a potential competitive integrity violation. PGL, which is involved in organising this year’s tournament, has also imposed a permanent ban preventing the player from participating in any future PGL events.

According to LGD, the organisation received information concerning TaiLung’s conduct in tournament-related activities and immediately launched an internal investigation. Its findings were subsequently shared with the relevant tournament organisers, which carried out further checks before the sanctions were imposed. LGD said it accepted the decision and would continue to cooperate with tournament officials.

Neither LGD nor PGL has publicly disclosed the specific conduct behind the ruling or identified the tournament in which the alleged violation occurred. Several esports figures have speculated publicly about possible match-fixing, but those claims have not been confirmed by the organisation or tournament officials. The confirmed grounds for the sanction remain a competitive integrity issue.

TaiLung has disputed the wider accusations circulating around the case. In a statement published through his social media, the player said his silence should not be interpreted as an admission or acceptance of the allegations and indicated that he planned to address the matter with legal assistance through the appropriate channels.

The timing creates a major disruption for LGD. The International 2026 begins in Shanghai on August 13, meaning the team had only days to replace one of its core players. Tournament officials allowed LGD to make a special roster adjustment, while the organisation confirmed that Yuma, Wisper, Thiolicor and KJ were continuing their preparations as planned.

LGD has already found a high-profile solution. Two-time The International winner Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen has joined the team to replace TaiLung in the mid lane. The Finnish player won consecutive TI titles with OG in 2018 and 2019 and is returning to top-level competition after nearly two years away from professional Dota 2.

The situation is particularly significant given TaiLung’s rapid rise in competitive Dota 2. The young player joined HEROIC earlier in 2026 before becoming part of the roster acquired by LGD in May. He was considered one of South America’s most promising talents and had helped the team secure the region’s only qualification place for The International. LGD defeated PlayTime 3-0 in the South American qualifier final in June.

TaiLung had also attracted attention for his individual performances, including a professional Dota 2 single-game hero damage record achieved while playing Zeus during a 111-minute match at BLAST Slam VII. His absence therefore changes both LGD’s preparation and one of the most closely watched young-player stories heading into TI 2026.

The case also reinforces growing concerns about competitive integrity in professional Dota 2. With tournament organisers increasingly willing to investigate suspicious activity and impose severe sanctions, the consequences for players can extend far beyond a single competition. For LGD, the immediate challenge is sporting: integrating Topson into the roster with almost no preparation time. For TaiLung, the permanent PGL ban could have a much longer impact on a professional career that had only just begun.
