Gladys Shollei announced this development during the afternoon session on November 7, 2024, in the National Assembly Chambers.
The bill, initially introduced in the National Assembly, aims to overhaul Kenya's gambling industry regulations. Key provisions include:
- Establishing a new regulatory authority to replace the current Betting, Control and Licensing Board (BCLB)
- Implementing stricter regulations for betting, casinos, and other gambling forms
- Proposing increased taxes on gambling activities
- Introducing more stringent measures to combat underage gambling
Following the Senate's approval with amendments, Deputy Speaker Shollei has committed the bill to the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture for further consideration.
