Online betting adverts will be curbed in Kenya. This follows a mutual consent agreement registered by the High Court of Kenya.

According to the contents of the document, the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has taken over the authority to oversee the cessation of the use of browser speed dial feature by gaming operators to advertise betting, lotteries and gaming activities.

A browser's speed dial is a visual set of entries compiled from a list of the pages most visited by a user in a given browser. The speed dial entries are displayed as thumbnails that, when clicked, lead to web pages.

BCLB was earlier sued by the Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) in the Supreme Court, alleging that bookmakers used the speed dial feature to target Kenyan internet users without taking into account their age.
