Ivory Coast hosts key ALA meeting to shape the future of african lotteries

The Executive Committee of the African Lotteries Association (ALA) held a meeting in Abidjan on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, to outline key objectives for the association's future.

Dramane Coulibaly, the Director General of the National Lottery of Côte d'Ivoire and President of ALA, led the meeting, focusing on significant actions that the association plans to implement in the coming days.

This gathering is part of the ALA's regular activities, which involve biannual meetings of the Executive Committee to discuss essential issues facing the association. Discussions centered on improving the association's operations.

Coulibaly, who was re-elected last year to lead this supranational organization, noted that they aim to address administrative challenges.

The committee focused on the legal status of the association and the recruitment of new members. Countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Mauritius, Senegal, Ghana, and Liberia are expected to join soon.

Coulibaly expressed optimism about these new memberships, highlighting that they represent a significant step forward for the organization.

Following this meeting, Coulibaly and the Executive Committee plan to formalize the association's legal structure during the general assembly, confirm new member admissions, and define specific roles for vice presidents.

The ALA aims to foster cooperation among its members while promoting responsible gaming and combating financial crime and money laundering. The association consists of a five-member Executive Committee, including vice presidents and a secretary-general, working under Coulibaly’s leadership since his election in 2020.
