Indian police file case against Paytm
On July 24, 2025, a local lawyer filed a complaint against Paytm, alleging that it was promoting illegal gambling apps.
The police have registered a case against One97 Communications Limited, the parent company of Paytm, for allegedly promoting unauthorized downloads of APK files, which are illegal gambling portals.
Based on the information available, the police have invoked Sections 66 and 43 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which deal with unauthorized access and misuse of computer system or digital data, and Section 3A of the Gambling Act, which regulates illegal gambling.
The authorities are currently investigating the case, analysing the available digital data and advertisement metadata, based on which further action will be taken. Let us remind you that downloading APK can lead to your phone being infected with malware, unauthorized access to all information on the device, including financial information, and many other unpleasant consequences.
