The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with with Norway igaming association (NBO). The document aims to create a basis for cooperation for a safe and effective licensing and regulation regime for online gambling in Norway.
There are currently two monopoly online gambling operators in Norway. Norsk Tipping has the exclusive right to accept bets on sports, lotteries, poker and keno, while Norsk Rikstoto accepts bets on horse racing.
The Scandinavian country remains the only one in continental Europe where such regulation exists.
“The lack of a license for responsible regulated betting operators in Norway hinders market oversight, consumer protection and the implementation of effective integrity provisions for sports betting,” said IBIA CEO Khalid Ali, commenting on the signing of the agreement.
Let us also recall that earlier the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) called on Norway to abandon its monopoly on online gambling, noting that the model does not correspond to the current European trend and the safety of gambling.
