Guinea: LONAGUI channels lottery proceeds into local football by backing the League Cup
Guinea’s National Lottery says it is working with the Guinean Professional Football League to prepare the next Coupe de la Ligue LONAGUI, reinforcing a multi-year sponsorship that helps fund a key competition for professional clubs nationwide.
Guinea’s official lottery operator LONAGUI has stepped up preparations for the next edition of the Coupe de la Ligue LONAGUI after its Marketing/Communication and CSR teams held a working session with the technical committee of the Guinean Professional Football League (LGFP). According to LONAGUI, the meeting focused on the activity roadmap, tournament organisation and optimising promotion to drive fan engagement.
LONAGUI frames the League Cup partnership as part of its social-impact mandate, positioning the tournament as a competitive platform for professional clubs beyond the regular league season. On its official site, the lottery notes that support is structured through a four-year framework agreement with the LGFP, signalling a long-term model rather than one-off event funding.
The sponsorship is already tied to direct club-level incentives. The LGFP has previously confirmed that the 2024 League Cup winner Hafia FC received a GNF 100 million cheque, illustrating how the tournament’s commercial backing translates into tangible returns for clubs.
Local media have also reported that, when the competition was launched, LONAGUI’s commitment was presented as a multi-season financial package (reported at GNF 2.25bn over four years) intended to stabilise the League Cup and widen its footprint across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 teams.
For lotteries and regulated gaming operators in Africa, the Guinea model is increasingly visible: instead of limiting “sports support” to branding, it ties lottery revenue to a structured competition, clear stakeholder coordination, and club-facing payouts — a practical template for turning gaming proceeds into measurable sports development.
