Ghana's NLA achieves European Lotteries observer membership
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana has been granted Observer Membership status by the European Lotteries (EL) Association, effective June 17, 2024. The decision was made at the EL Industry Days Seminar in Salzburg, Austria, where the 45 member countries voted unanimously in favor of the NLA's membership.
The NLA's Director-General, Samuel Awuku, made a strong pitch for the membership during the EL Public Seminar Order in Brussels in February 2024. The EL Secretary General, Arjan Van T’ Veer, requested the NLA to officially apply and submit its financial statements, expenditure on Good Causes, and Responsible Gaming certification.
Having satisfied the criteria, the NLA is now officially an EL Observer Member. This marks the second African country to be granted Observer Membership, bringing the total number of EL Observer Members to four.
The Observer Status allows the NLA and its stakeholders to participate freely in EL training, capacity building, and exchange programs on best practices for the development of the lottery industry. Mr. Awuku thanked the EL for the opportunity and believes it will strengthen the NLA's operations and position the Authority internationally.
