The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana reached a significant milestone on August 30, 2024 by granting licenses to fifteen new private lotto companies during a pivotal Extended Board Meeting with the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA).

Director General Sammi Awuku expressed his enthusiasm for this development on his social media accounts, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made it possible. He extended his gratitude to the NLA Board for their steadfast support throughout this challenging process and reaffirmed the management and staff's commitment to maintaining transparency and integrity in all operations.

The licensing ceremony, held at the NLA Headquarters in Accra, officially authorized the new operators to conduct business under the National Lotto Act 2006 (Act 722) and the Lottery Regulations 2008 (L.I. 1948). This initiative aims to regulate the lotto industry and combat illegal operations across the country.

The newly licensed operators include: Accurate Giant Company LTD, Alpha Lotto LTD, Best Chance Lottery LTD, Diblo Lottery & Trading LTD, From Home Company LTD, Glovita Lottery LTD, Luma Technologies and Trading LTD, Makafui Mogyi LTD, Miwor Kakra Yebedi Nti LTD, Obiri Asare and Sons LTD, Rand Lottery Company LTD, SB Business Ventures, Super Rand Ventures, Vision 2000 Lotto LTD, and Zacdow Company LTD.

Alpha Lotto LTD and Rand Lottery Company LTD received 10-year licenses for operating Point of Sale Terminals (POST) in the digital space. The remaining thirteen operators, who still utilize paper-based methods, were granted two-year licenses each, encouraging them to transition to digital platforms.

Gary Nimako Marfo, Chairman of the NLA Board, emphasized the importance of this licensing process as a critical step in regulating the lotto industry. He assured the operators that the NLA’s intent was not to disrupt their businesses but to ensure compliance and fair revenue generation for the government.
