Ghana's National Lottery Authority embraces responsible gaming with European Lotteries

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana recently hosted a training program on responsible gaming in collaboration with European Lotteries, showcasing its dedication to fostering responsible gaming practices. This initiative aligns with NLA's commitment to uphold the standards of the World Lottery Association (WLA).

The training sessions, attended by NLA management, focused on various aspects including responsible gaming, combating illegal lottery activities, anti-money laundering measures, and the integration of new gaming technologies.

NLA has achieved WLA level 2 certification in responsible gaming and is applying for level 3, which requires such training to strengthen lottery operations per best practices.

Director General of NLA, Sammi Awuku, emphasized the importance of such training in combating illegal lottery operations and leveraging technology for enhanced lottery operations.

European Lotteries Head of Legal, Phillipe Vlaemminck, commended NLA as a dynamic and leading lottery operator on the continent, emphasizing the need to protect societies against illegal lotteries, which cost an estimated $1.7 trillion annually worldwide. Vlaemminck argued for governments to reconsider taxing the lottery industry, as it positively impacts society, and praised NLA's commitment to responsible gaming practices at the global level.
