Ghana's National Lottery Authority boosts agent commissions to 25%
Gary Nimako Marfo Esq., the Board Chairman of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has announced a significant policy change aimed at boosting the earnings of lottery agents in Ghana.
Mr. Marfo revealed that the board has decided to increase commission rates for agents from 20% to 25%, a move expected to benefit thousands of agents nationwide. This new rate will take effect at the end of August 2024.
Historically, agents received a 25% commission since the lottery's inception in Ghana in 1962, but this was reduced to 20% by the NLA in subsequent years.
Mr. Marfo emphasized that this increase is part of a broader initiative to enhance regulation and integrity within the lottery industry.
The new commission rate will apply exclusively to lotto companies licensed by the NLA.
Gary Nimako Marfo, who is also the managing partner at Marfo & Associates, was appointed as the board chairman of the NLA by President Akufo-Addo, transitioning from his previous role as the chairman of the Gaming Commission. This reassignment was communicated in a letter dated March 7, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.
