Ghana Launches Stickers to Combat Unlicensed Lottery Operators
A new sticker system introduced by the National Lottery Authority (NLA) came into effect on September 1. The initiative was developed in collaboration with the Concerned Lottery Agents Association of Ghana (CLAAG) and is part of the Mahama administration’s wider reform agenda.
All licensed lottery organisers, authors and operators are required to display a special sticker to enable regulators to monitor compliance and ensure proper accounting of revenues.
The stickers are intended to help regulators identify licensed lottery operators. The move is intended to help combat illegal operators and increase government revenue from the sector. Executive Secretary Kwaku Dua Tawiah said: “Any money that goes to the wrong pocket does not help us as a nation. I am appealing to all lottery operators to support this process”.
Kwaw Dua Tawia also called on private operators to cooperate with the National Crime Agency and the Organised Crime Directorate because licensed operators who have invested heavily in obtaining a licence should not allow illegal companies to profit from the efforts of others.
