Ghana Gaming Commission makes biometric verification mandatory for all gaming transactions
The new rule requires player verification to be done via fingerprint or facial recognition, using the Ghana Card issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA). The card is now the only method of identification, with manual verification or the use of alternative documents prohibited. The rule affects all online gambling platforms, casinos and betting shops.
All operators have 14 days to submit an integration plan and 30 days to test and implement the system. Failure to implement Ghana Card identification will result in operators losing their license and risking a refusal in the next licensing period.
According to authorities, the change is aimed at preventing underage gambling and impersonation for fraudulent purposes.
The move is expected to prevent money laundering through the gambling sector and make the market more transparent and friendly, putting Ghana in line with South Africa and Kenya, which are also moving towards responsible gambling.
