GFA partners with CID to tackle illegal betting and match-fixing ahead of 25/26 season
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has partnered with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of a wider strategy to tackle illegal betting and match-fixing.
Ahead of the 25/26 Premier League season, which kicks off on September 12, GFA President Kurt Simeon-Okraku met with CID CEO Lydia Donkor to identify key issues. The two organisations are collaborating to tackle illegal betting, match-fixing and hooliganism in stadiums.
“We view football as a national treasure that fosters unity, development, and pride. The Police Service, through the CID, will continue to support the GFA in addressing emerging challenges, such as corruption in sports, violence at match venues, and illegal betting practices,” said Donkor. The strategy, which includes cooperation between the GFA and CID, envisages punitive measures only for unlicensed operators; companies that comply with the law, have a license and generate income for the state through tax revenues will receive enhanced protection.
