The Georgia Senate passed a bill on online sports betting.  35 senators voted for the document with 15 votes cast against it.

According to the content of the bill, 16 online sports betting operator licences will be issued in the state. Eight of them will be awarded to sports organisations, seven will be put out to tender and another one will be given to the Georgia Lottery.

The licence will require an application fee of $100,000 and an annual licence fee of $1 million.

The income tax on online operators will be 20"% of their operating income.

To legalise betting on sports it is proposed to hold a referendum among the residents of the state.

The draft law has been sent to the House of Representatives.
