Gambling revenues rise in Paraguay in 2023
Gambling revenues have increased in Paraguay. This was announced by the National Gaming Commission (Conajzar).
According to published data, gambling revenues totalled 55.92 billion guaraníes (US$7.67 million) for the period from 1 September to 31 December 2023. A year earlier, Guaraní 50.74 billion was received from the gambling industry. Thus, the increase in revenue was 5.2 billion guaraníes or 10.2 per cent.
As the head of Conajzar told the local news publication La Nación, the reason for the growth was the tightening of control over the conduct of illegal gambling.
Recall that at the end of 2023, Paraguayan President Santiago Peña signed a law prohibiting the installation of slot machines outside casinos. Since 27 January 2024, the law came into force.
