Gambia to raise gambling winnings tax from 30% to 40% in 2025
Gambia's Finance Minister Seedy K.M. Keita announced tax increases on gambling activities during his 2025 budget speech on December 13, 2024.
"We are implementing a tax rate increase on the winnings from betting, gaming, lottery, and gambling from thirty percent to forty percent," Keita stated. He emphasized that "winnings" refers to the payout from these activities, excluding the amount staked or wagered.
This latest move follows a similar increase implemented by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) in the previous year. At that time, they had raised the tax on betting and gambling winnings from 10% to 30%.
In Gambia, the types of gambling include lotteries, which are regulated by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), and sports betting, which lacks a specific licensing authority but is generally supervised by the GRA. Additionally, casinos operate under specific permissions, while online gambling remains unregulated, with no licensed operators currently available in the country.
