French illegal gambling could be worth €1.5bn
The volume of the illegal market in France ranges from 748 million euros to 1.5 billion euros. Such a conclusion is contained in the study, the results of which were published on the website of the French National Gambling Authority (ANJ). The study was conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers at the request of the French gambling regulator.
According to the contents of the document, the share of illegal operators in the total volume of the gambling market in France ranges from 5% to 11%. According to the study, 50% of internet traffic in illegal online gambling related to online casino games.
The results of the study were based on an online survey of more than 11,000 French residents conducted between January and March 2023. It resulted in the identification of 510 illegal gambling sites accepting bets from French players. At the same time, 60% of the volume of illegal bets came from 21 sites.
Recall that the gambling revenue of France became a record in the 2022 fiscal year, reaching 12.9 billion euros. At the same time, €2.96bn came from online gambling, including sports betting, horse racing and poker.
