The Ethiopian Lottery Service announced on March 19th through their official Facebook page that they have recorded a remarkable 116 percent increase in total revenue performance during the first half of Ethiopian year 2017 (which corresponds to 2024/2025 in the Gregorian calendar) compared to the same period last year.

During the six-month implementation period, the service generated this substantial income through various lottery sales and lottery game license commissions. According to their statement, the service has exceeded expectations by achieving 158% of their planned net profit target for the first half of the budget year.

Established in 1958 (1950 in the Ethiopian calendar), the Ethiopian Lottery Service has been the country's primary regulator and operator of lottery games for over six decades. The organization is responsible for overseeing all legal gambling activities in Ethiopia, including traditional lottery draws, instant games, and licensing of private lottery operators. As the sole government entity authorized to regulate gambling, they ensure the integrity of games while generating revenue for public welfare and development projects.

The service has indicated that for the remainder of the budget year, they will focus on implementing a strategic digital lottery system while restructuring their organizational framework and business model to enhance service performance. These initiatives are part of the organization's ongoing modernization efforts to adapt to changing market conditions in Ethiopia's controlled gambling sector.
