EGBA supports plans to abolish online gambling monopoly in Finland
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has supported the Finnish government's plans to modernize online gambling regulation by creating a licensing system. The country's authorities intend to bring the licensing system in line with all other EU member states.
As noted in the organization’s statement published on September 25 on its website, “EGBA, representing Europe’s leading online gambling companies, welcomes this announcement as a crucial milestone in addressing the shortcomings of Finland’s outdated monopoly framework for online gambling.”
The bill is aimed at preparing the necessary proposals for reforming the gambling system, including online casinos and online betting. These proposals will cover various aspects, including gambling activities that should be included in the licensing system, license fees, taxation, safer gambling rules, preventing gambling-related harm and advertising regulation.
The authorities intend to introduce the changes in 2025.
