Dominican Republic Identifies 81 Unlicensed Betting Platforms as Only Seven Operators Hold Authorisations
The Dominican Republic's gambling regulator has identified approximately 81 online betting platforms and businesses without the required permits, while confirming that only seven operators currently hold official authorisations under the country's new regulatory framework.
The Dominican Republic is intensifying oversight of its online gambling sector following the introduction of Law No. 86-26, enacted on September 22, 2026.
The Directorate General of Gambling (DGJA), headed by Teófilo “Quico” Tabar, announced in early November that only seven companies currently appear on the government's list of authorised online betting operators.
The regulator identified Game Technology International, Betcris Banca de Apuesta, Juancito Sport, Gogo Sport, Orobet, Breeze Management and Drbets as holding valid authorisations.
At the same time, the DGJA reported approximately 81 online platforms and businesses operating without the necessary government permits.
Authorities are examining these operations to establish whether regulatory violations have occurred and what administrative or legal measures may be appropriate.
However, the process of issuing additional licences remains unresolved. The newly established Gambling Regulatory Council has yet to hold its first formal meeting, delaying the approval of rules governing technical requirements, licensing fees and application procedures.
The DGJA is coordinating with other government institutions to strengthen market supervision and has encouraged citizens and media organisations to report suspected unauthorised gambling activities.
For existing operators, the announcement clarifies the current licensing situation. For prospective entrants, it highlights continuing uncertainty over the requirements for obtaining authorisation.
The next important development will be the approval of implementing regulations, which should establish clearer procedures for new applicants and strengthen enforcement against unlicensed operators.
