Dominican government issues warning on sports betting regulations
The Directorate of Casinos and Gambling (DCJA) under the Ministry of Finance of the Dominican Republic has issued a warning to the public and commercial establishments, emphasizing that sports betting on professional sports is strictly regulated and supervised by the state in accordance with current legislation.
The DCJA reminds that all sports betting activities must be conducted exclusively through officially registered and authorized sports betting outlets. Only these licensed platforms and establishments are permitted to operate, ensuring transparency, legal security, and full consumer protection.
Any sports betting operations carried out at unregistered establishments, through illegal platforms, or via informal intermediaries constitute an administrative and/or criminal offense. Bettors engaging in such activities risk financial penalties, the invalidation of their wagers, and exposure to fraud, unfulfilled payments, and lack of consumer rights protection.
Additionally, unlicensed establishments found operating illegally may face closure and legal action.
The DCJA stresses the importance of betting responsibly and legally to ensure a fair, secure, and transparent gambling environment. The agency remains committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding the rights of all players.
