Congo-Brazzaville establishes new regulatory authority for gambling activities
The Congolese Senate has approved a bill to establish a regulatory authority for gambling and betting activities. This initiative aims to combat money laundering risks and prevent actions that could threaten the country's internal and external security.
The new public institution will have legal personality and financial autonomy, tasked with ensuring transparency and legality in the gambling sector, thereby significantly contributing to the state’s budgetary resources. The authority will operate under the supervision of the ministry responsible for gambling and betting.
The bill outlines several important provisions for the new regulatory authority:
- Licensing: The authority will be responsible for issuing licenses to gambling operators, ensuring that only compliant entities can operate legally.
- Oversight: Regular monitoring of gambling activities will be enforced to ensure adherence to legal standards and prevent illicit practices.
- Financial Contributions: The authority is expected to significantly contribute to state revenues through licensing fees and taxes on gambling operations.
