Colombia introduces RNGs and live streaming for transparent lottery draws
Colombia’s National Council of Games of Chance and Luck (Coljuegos) has authorized gaming operators to use certified random number generation (RNG) software alongside traditional lottery drums. The new rules, part of Agreement 802 of 2025, also require draws to be broadcast live via digital and analog platforms.
Marco Emilio Hincapié Ramírez, President of Coljuegos, stated that the move aims to modernize the industry, increase transparency, and boost revenue for public health funding.
RNGs use algorithms to produce fair and unpredictable results, allowing operators to host more draws annually. Operators can continue using traditional methods while incorporating RNGs and streaming draws on websites, social media, and television.
This initiative is part of Colombia’s broader strategy to optimize the gaming sector with a focus on cybersecurity and transparency. In 2024, the chance game industry contributed $320.381 billion to subsidized health funds, a 4% increase from 2023.
