Colombia introduces new slot machine regulations for non-gambling venues

Coljuegos has updated the legal framework governing Electronic Slot Machines (METs) in Colombia, modifying Resolution to regulate their operation in non-gambling establishments. The latest change, introduced by Resolution No. 20244000022574 on October 15, 2024, adjusts the number of authorized machines based on municipal population sizes.

Establishments in municipalities with over 50,000 residents can now operate up to four slot machines, while those in towns with populations between 25,000 and 50,000 are limited to three, and smaller municipalities can only install two. Minimum space requirements are set at 6.00 square meters per machine in large municipalities and 5.00 square meters in mid-sized towns.

The modifications align with Article 336 of the Constitution, reinforcing the state's control over gambling revenue for public health funding. The regulation also expands third-party participation, allowing external operators to manage METs in non-gambling businesses. Coljuegos emphasizes the necessity of proper registration and authorization to ensure legal compliance.

The recent amendment follows previous regulatory updates, including the introduction of "METs de Paz" in February 2024, which legalized previously unauthorized machines. The public was invited to review and provide feedback on the changes in March 2025 before official enactment.

All resolutions, including the latest modifications, have been published on Coljuegos' official website for transparency.
