Chile's casino sector reports decreased revenue in 2024
According to SCJ Chile, the gross gaming revenue (win) generated by the 25 legally authorized casinos in 2024 amounted to CLP554.537 billion. In real terms, this figure represents a 4.5% decrease compared to 2023. From this revenue, the casinos contributed a total of CLP196.833 billion in taxes, marking a 4.0% decline from the previous year's tax contributions.
The tax revenue was allocated as follows: CLP85.117 billion from the specific gaming tax, which was equally distributed between regional governments and municipalities; CLP82.257 billion from the value-added tax (VAT) on gaming revenue; and CLP29.459 billion from the entrance tax to gaming halls. The total economic contributions made by casinos to municipalities in 2024 reached CLP64.991 billion. These payments were managed by the General Treasury of the Republic and distributed in the month following collection.
The number of visits to the 25 operational casinos in 2024 totaled 6,773,026, reflecting a 4.8% decline compared to 2023. The average expenditure per visit was CLP78,496, showing a real decrease of 3.3% from the previous year. The distribution of these tax revenues varies by region and operator, ensuring financial support for local communities.
The tax contributions from casinos are essential for regional development, as they provide significant funding for infrastructure and local projects. Despite the decline in gross gaming revenue and visitor numbers, casinos remain a key contributor to public funds through taxation.
