Chile Supreme Court Confirms Online Gambling Ban and Orders ISPs to Block Offshore Platforms

The Supreme Court of Chile has confirmed that offshore online gambling platforms are illegal in the country and has ordered internet service providers to block access to several major operators, including Betano, Betsson, Coolbet, JugaBet and Rojabet.

The ruling comes after a case initiated by the state lottery Polla Chilena de Beneficencia. The court declared that only state-authorized entities can legally offer betting services in Chile and that offshore platforms violate national law. ISPs are now required to block access to the domains of the named operators.

This follows a similar 2023 decision in which the court ordered the blocking of 23 unlicensed betting sites. The latest ruling reinforces Chile’s stance that online gambling remains illegal unless explicitly authorized by the state.

Legal experts note that the enforcement of large-scale website blocking raises questions around net neutrality and practical implementation. However, the court’s decision sets a strong precedent, signaling that offshore iGaming platforms will no longer be tolerated in the Chilean market.

The verdict also increases pressure on lawmakers to advance long-awaited legislation for a regulated online gambling framework, which remains under debate in the Chilean Congress.
