Chile advances online betting regulation bill in Senate Finance Commission
The Chilean Undersecretariat of Finance (Subsecretaría de Hacienda) has confirmed that Undersecretary Heidi Berner presented the bill to regulate online betting platforms to the Senate Finance Commission on June 16, 2025.
According to the Subsecretariat, the bill—originally dispatched by the Chamber of Deputies—contains 75 permanent and six transitional articles. It was previously approved in general by the Senate Economy Committee on April 2, 2024, following several public hearings. A working group composed of parliamentary advisers was also established to analyze the proposal ahead of its detailed discussion.
During the June 16 session, representatives from the Chilean Association of Online Betting Platforms participated in the proceedings on Bulletin No. 14.838-03. The discussion, led by Undersecretary Berner, focused on key issues such as tax obligations, transitional periods, and regulatory alignment. Lawmakers including Senator Ximena Rincón, Senator Javier Macaya, and Senator José Miguel Insulza agreed on the importance of revisiting some elements of the proposal to ensure an effective and coherent regulatory framework.
Presentations by industry stakeholders were postponed to the commission's next session, during which the association will return alongside other national and international representatives.
“As an association, we reaffirm the urgent need for modern regulation in Chile—one that not only brings clarity to the market and safeguards consumers but also builds a fair, secure system aligned with international best practices,” the group emphasized in a statement.
