Buenos Aires authorities warn influencers over promoting illegal gambling in Argentina

This week, the Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA) reportedly sent 24 legal notices to social media influencers accused of promoting illegal betting sites and unregulated gambling activities. According to local reports, this brings the total number of individuals under legal scrutiny to more than 100, as Argentine authorities intensify efforts to combat content that may encourage underage gambling.

It was indicated that the investigations are part of a broader initiative by the Buenos Aires City government to address youth gambling addiction at its roots and prevent minors from being exposed to such platforms. Officials highlighted that roughly 75 percent of the cases currently under review were triggered by complaints filed by LOTBA itself.

LOTBA President Jesús Acevedo was quoted as emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among influencers about the serious consequences of promoting illegal gambling. He reportedly affirmed that the agency would continue its efforts to encourage responsible gaming and curb youth gambling addiction across Argentina.

In collaboration with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling, judicial sources said that Judge María Julia Correa, who presides over Court No. 28 in Buenos Aires, ordered the judicial blocking of 72 unauthorized betting platforms last week. The decision was said to have followed an in-depth investigation launched after a complaint filed by the Argentine Chamber of Casinos, Bingos, and Annex Rooms (CASCBA), pointing to a significant breach of existing gambling regulations in Argentina.
