Loterj boosts football in Brazil with new Série A2 sponsorship deal

The State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro (Loterj) has officially become the main sponsor of the Campeonato Carioca Série A2, one of the key divisions in Rio de Janeiro’s professional football league system. The announcement marks a new chapter for the tournament, which will now carry the name “Campeonato Carioca Série A2 Loterj.”

With an investment of R$14 million, the partnership aims to strengthen the visibility and structure of the competition. The funding will not only support the main tournament but also extend to youth categories — under-15, under-17, and under-20 — as well as women’s football. The initiative is intended to foster broader development across different levels of the sport in the state.

The opening match of the revamped competition is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at the Estádio Giulite Coutinho in Mesquita. The event will feature a match between América Futebol Clube (Teófilo Otoni) and Associação Desportiva Cabofriense. Rio de Janeiro Governor Cláudio Castro is expected to attend the opening ceremony.

According to Loterj, the sponsorship reflects a broader commitment to using sport as a vehicle for social inclusion and youth development. Officials hope the initiative will help discover new talents while contributing to long-term investment in grassroots football.

The Campeonato Carioca Série A2 serves as a key platform for clubs and players aspiring to reach the top tier of Rio football. With new backing and expanded support, the 2025 season is expected to bring increased competitiveness and visibility to the league.
