Brazil has established an interdepartmental working group on combating match-fixing
On September 9, the Ministers of Sports, Finance, Justice and Public Security of Brazil signed a joint decree that establishes an Interagency working Group to develop a National policy to combat the manipulation of sports results.
The main principles in the development of National Policy were:
- Ensuring transparency and legality in competitions
- Interagency and international cooperation in combating illegal betting and related problems.
- Proportionate and effective responsibility of those involved in the manipulation of sports results.
The overall coordination of the working group will be entrusted to the National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development, Giovanni Rocco Neto. The meetings are scheduled to be held twice a month.
The Group will be active for 180 days from the first meeting and may be extended for the same period. At the end of the term, the group will provide a final report on the results of its work, which will be presented by the Minister of Sports, Finance, Justice and Public Security.
The first task is to carry out a major national technical equipping later this month. 27 civilian police officers and 27 superintendents of the federal police will be trained at this event. They will be trained to combat match-fixing, which usually involves fraudulent money laundering schemes, corruption and transnational criminal organizations.
