Brazil Senate postpones vote on sports betting bill
The Brazilian Senate has postponed a vote on a bill legalizing sports betting. It was scheduled for November 29, but did not take place due to more than 100 amendments to the document. The greatest controversy was caused by the proposal to legalize online casinos.
Let us recall that last week the Economic Affairs Committee of the Brazilian Senate (CAE) approved an amendment reducing the tax on betting income from 18% to 12%, and introducing a 15% tax on player winnings.
As previously reported, the bill allows the offering of gambling only to companies registered under Brazilian law in the country. A three-year operator license will be available for BRL 30 million. Only licensed operators will be able to place advertisements for sports betting. However, they will be prohibited from offering bonuses to clients.
Persons over 18 years of age will be able to place bets.
The discussion of the document is expected to take place before the end of December this year.
