Botswana’s Gambling Authority Publishes Updated Registry of Licensed Betting Operators
The Gambling Authority of Botswana (GA) has updated its public list of licensed bookmakers, confirming that six operators currently maintain both physical locations and online platforms across Botswana.
The official registry published on the GA’s website details the licensed route-operating bookmakers authorized to operate land-based betting shops and online betting in the country. Among the listed entities are Sunbet Botswana (Pty) Ltd, Betway Botswana (Pty) Ltd (Delta Bay), and Pstbet Botswana (Pty) Ltd.
The authority notes that out of the ten bookmaker licences approved earlier this year, six operators are already active, three are preparing to launch and one has withdrawn.
GA Board Chairman Marvin Torto said the updated registry promotes transparency and helps consumers verify that an operator is formally authorised. He explained that regular publication of the licence list is part of GA’s strategy to foster trust in Botswana’s regulated gambling market.
The updated list also underscores the regulator’s dual approach: recognising the significance of land-based betting establishments in key urban areas while adapting to the growth of online wagering. Licensed route-operators are required to meet strict compliance, responsible gambling measures and anti-money-laundering (AML) standards as part of their regulatory obligations.
Industry analysts say publishing the registry is a positive signal for Botswana’s efforts to formalise its gambling sector. However, they also warn that verifying that physical locations match licence approvals and monitoring online platforms will be key to enforcement success.
