Botswana introduces sports betting at Motokwe Horse Racing Event

For the first time since its introduction by the Gambling Authority, sports betting was officially launched at the Motokwe Horse Racing event. 

The 7th edition of the Motokwe Horse Race Championships took place on December 14, 2024, showcasing thrilling horse races. Attendees had the opportunity to place bets on their favorite competitors during the event. Sunbet, a licensed betting company, provided a secure platform for patrons to engage in betting activities. 

Peter Kesitilwe, Chief Executive Officer of the Gambling Authority, stated that Sunbet is the first company to obtain a betting license and has prior experience participating in horse racing events.

The Champions Cup horse race continues to foster community engagement and excitement in the local sporting scene. This event marks a significant step in integrating sports betting into Botswana's horse racing culture.
