Botswana Gambling Authority Wins Top Parastatal Honour at Northern Trade Fair

The Botswana Gambling Authority has taken first place in the parastatal category at the 30th Northern Trade Fair in Francistown, highlighting the regulator’s growing focus on public engagement and responsible gambling awareness.

The Botswana Gambling Authority has secured first position in the parastatal category at the 30th Business Botswana Northern Trade Fair, held at the Business Botswana Showgrounds in Gerald Estates, Francistown. The recognition was awarded for the Authority’s exhibition stand, which presented its regulatory work, licensing services and responsible gambling initiatives to visitors.

The trade fair, one of northern Botswana’s key business events, brought together public institutions, private companies and industry stakeholders under the theme “Value Chain Revolution: From Local Resources to Global Markets.” For the Gambling Authority, participation in the event was not only a visibility exercise, but also an opportunity to communicate directly with the public about safe gaming, compliance and the role of regulation in Botswana’s gambling sector.

The Authority is responsible for regulating gambling in Botswana, including licensing, compliance monitoring and the promotion of fair and safe gambling practices. Its public outreach at the fair reflects a broader effort to strengthen awareness of legal gambling channels and reduce risks linked to unlicensed or irresponsible gaming activity.

The award also comes at a time when African gambling regulators are increasingly expected to combine enforcement with education. As betting and gaming markets expand across the continent, public trust depends not only on licensing frameworks, but also on how clearly regulators explain consumer protection, operator obligations and responsible gambling principles.

For Botswana, the recognition reinforces the Gambling Authority’s role as both a regulator and a public-facing institution. Its success at the Northern Trade Fair suggests that industry oversight in the country is becoming more closely connected with education, transparency and community engagement — areas that are likely to remain important as the market continues to develop.
