Botswana Gambling Authority Publishes List of Licensed Betting Operators
Botswana’s Gambling Authority has issued a public notice identifying the betting operators currently licensed and operational in the country, while warning residents against using unregulated gambling websites.
The Botswana Gambling Authority has published an updated notice naming the betting operators that are currently licensed and operational in the country, as part of its wider effort to protect consumers and strengthen confidence in the regulated market.
According to the regulator’s notice, only six betting operators are currently authorised to offer betting services in Botswana. The licensed companies and their trading brands are Sunbet Botswana, operating as Sunbet; PstBet Botswana, operating as PstBet; Mecaville Enterprises, operating as Bet 267; Delta Bay, operating as Betway; SNB Investments Botswana, operating as BBets; and Direct Wholesale, trading as BetXplosion.
The Authority said the publication of the list is intended to help residents identify legitimate betting providers before opening accounts, depositing money or placing bets. The move also reflects a broader push by the regulator to make licensing information more visible and reduce the influence of unregulated online gambling platforms.
In its warning, the Gambling Authority cautioned the public against using betting websites that are not licensed in Botswana. Such platforms may expose users to fraud, unfair gaming practices, blocked withdrawals and financial losses with little or no possibility of recovery.
Licensed operators, by contrast, are subject to regulatory oversight, compliance requirements and consumer protection obligations. This includes standards intended to promote fair gaming, safeguard customer interests and ensure that betting activity takes place within Botswana’s legal framework.
The notice comes as African regulators are paying closer attention to illegal online betting and offshore operators targeting local players. In Botswana, the risk is especially relevant as digital betting becomes more accessible and consumers may struggle to distinguish authorised platforms from unlicensed websites.
The Authority also encouraged players to gamble responsibly and to treat betting as entertainment rather than a source of income. Consumers were urged to set spending limits, avoid chasing losses and seek help if gambling begins to affect their finances, work or personal life.
For Botswana’s gambling market, the notice is more than a simple list of licensed brands. It is a consumer protection measure and a compliance signal to the wider industry. By publicly identifying approved operators and warning against illegal platforms, the regulator is reinforcing the importance of licensed participation, responsible gambling and a more transparent betting environment.
