On May 6, betPawa officially launched its Locker Room Bonus (LRB) in partnership with the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL), marking the first time this bonus model is being applied in the league. This move represents betPawa’s second major investment in Tanzanian basketball, following its 2024 partnership with the national federation.
The LRB initiative rewards each member of a matchday squad—12 players and 4 technical staff—with TZS 88,750 per win, totaling TZS 1,420,000 per team victory. No bonuses are awarded for draws, reinforcing the model’s focus on performance over participation.
Unlike traditional payment systems, these bonuses are sent instantly to players’ mobile wallets. During a demo match at the launch, winners received TZS 26,000 on the spot to showcase the system’s speed and transparency.
Jehud Ngolo, Deputy Director of the Gaming Board of Tanzania, called the initiative a milestone: “TZS 88,750 per win is more than money—it’s dignity, motivation, and a step toward professionalizing basketball.”
The model applies equally to men’s and women’s teams, emphasizing betPawa’s commitment to gender equity in sport. “With Locker Room Bonus, we’re not just leveling the playing field. We’re paying it equally,” said Raquel Puig Mohr, betPawa’s Head of CSR & Sports Development.
At the end of the BDL season, a total of TZS 14 million will be awarded in MVP bonuses and team prizes—shared equally across both competitions.
The launch in Dar es Salaam is part of betPawa’s broader Locker Room Bonus rollout across Africa, which already includes Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, and Kenya.
