Benin introduces new gambling taxes for 2025
Nicolas Yènoussi, the Director General of Taxes in Benin, announced during a press conference on December 27, 2024, that the 2025 finance law introduces significant changes to the taxation of gambling activities, as reported by Radio Cristal.
Traditional gambling will now be subject to a tax rate of 10%, while online gambling will face a higher tax rate of 25%. Additionally, specific clarifications regarding the tax regime applicable to casinos in Benin have been provided.
In Benin, gambling activities are regulated by the National Lottery Authority (LONAB) under Law No. 2006-12 of March 2006. Legal activities include land-based casinos, lotteries, and sports betting, while online gambling remains largely unregulated, allowing players to engage with foreign sites without specific local protections.
