Belgium introduces identification for access to gambling
Belgium introduces electronic identification for access to gambling. The corresponding resolution was adopted last Friday by the Federal Council of the European country.
As noted in the document, identity verification will be introduced for bets in bookmakers and on slot machines installed in entertainment and retail establishments in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia.
The restrictions are aimed at protecting vulnerable populations and creating a responsible gambling environment.
The Belgian Gambling Commission will develop technical recommendations on how to conduct checks on electronic ID cards.
Let us recall that from July 1, 2023, advertising of gambling companies, both land-based and online, was prohibited in Belgium, with the exception of the National Lottery.
