Arsenal stumble against Bournemouth as Manchester City reignite title race
Arsenal’s 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth in Matchweek 32 has reopened the Premier League title battle after Manchester City responded with a 3-0 win away at Chelsea to cut the gap at the top to six points with a game in hand.
Arsenal suffered a damaging setback in the title race after losing 2-1 to Bournemouth at the Emirates. The visitors took the lead through Junior Kroupi, Viktor Gyokeres brought Arsenal level from the penalty spot, but Alex Scott struck the winner in the final quarter of the match to hand Bournemouth a second successive league win away to Arsenal.
The defeat immediately gave Manchester City a chance to tighten the race, and Pep Guardiola’s side did exactly that with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. After a goalless first half, City surged clear through Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guéhi and Jeremy Doku, turning a difficult away fixture into one of their most important wins of the run-in.
The result leaves Arsenal top of the table on 70 points from 32 matches, while Manchester City have moved to 64 points from 31 games. That means the gap has narrowed to six points, with City still holding a match in hand and a direct showdown with Arsenal looming on 19 April at the Etihad.
For Arsenal, the loss is more than just a dropped three points. It shifts the psychological balance of the race at a crucial stage of the season and increases the pressure ahead of the upcoming meeting with City. For Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, the Chelsea win was a reminder that the defending contenders remain fully capable of punishing any slip from the leaders. The title race is no longer merely alive — it now feels set up for a defining confrontation.
