Arsenal snatch late win over Everton as Man City slip at West Ham in Premier League weekend drama

Arsenal broke Everton’s resistance with two late goals to go nine points clear at the top, while Manchester City were held 1–1 by West Ham despite heavy dominance—tightening the narrative in both the title race and the relegation battle.

A chaotic end to the latest Premier League round saw Arsenal and Manchester City produce very different outcomes—both with major consequences at opposite ends of the table. Arsenal edged Everton 2–0 at the Emirates thanks to a late breakthrough, while City dropped points in a 1–1 draw at West Ham.

In North London, Arsenal looked short of ideas for long stretches, but the match flipped late after teenage substitute Max Dowman changed the rhythm. In the 89th minute, Dowman delivered a decisive ball that led to Viktor Gyökeres tapping in the opener. Then, deep into stoppage time, with Everton pushing forward for a last corner (including their goalkeeper), Dowman launched a long solo run and finished to make it 2–0—a goal that also made him the youngest scorer in Premier League history (16 years, 73 days), according to Reuters.

City, meanwhile, missed the chance to reduce the gap at the top. At the London Stadium, Bernardo Silva put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead, but the lead lasted only minutes before Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in from a Jarrod Bowen corner to equalise. Reuters noted City created a stream of chances and controlled the game, yet could not find a winner—leaving them nine points behind Arsenal (with a game in hand mentioned in post-match context).

For West Ham, that point was huge: it helped their survival push in a tight relegation scrap, while for City it was another frustrating example of dominance without the finishing touch. For Arsenal, the late surge was the kind of title-race moment that can define a season—turning a tense, goalless afternoon into a statement win in minutes.
