Argentina shuts down four illegal online casinos operating without oversight
The Special Criminal Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling in Buenos Aires, Argentina, led by Dr. Juan Rozas, has successfully blocked access to four illegal online gambling platforms operating as clandestine casinos.
The platforms—CELUAPUESTAS, EMMEBET, PK BETS, and ESTRELLA777—were operating outside the law without any government oversight. They exposed thousands of users to the risks of compulsive gambling, offering no guarantees of transparency or legality.
These illegal sites failed to properly verify the age or identity of their users, allowing unrestricted access—even to minors. Additionally, they were not subject to audits ensuring that games operate with fair rules and genuine randomness. This lack of oversight enabled systems designed to cause users to lose money with no possibility of regulatory intervention.
This recent operation, carried out in coordination with judicial authorities and regulatory agencies in Buenos Aires, marks a significant step in combating gambling addiction and the spread of scams disguised as entertainment.
The ease of access to these uncontrolled sites poses a serious threat, especially to vulnerable groups. Therefore, blocking these platforms is a crucial tool in curbing a phenomenon that causes serious social, economic, and health-related harm.
The judicial orders were issued by Courts PCyF 4, led by Dr. María Julia Correa, and PCyF 6, under Dr. Gonzalo Rúa.
