Angola suspends gaming activities of Maré Casinos

The Institute of Gaming Supervision (ISJ), the regulatory and supervisory body for the gaming sector in Angola, has announced the suspension of gaming activities by Maré Casinos, S.A., the owner of the Maré – Casinos Gaming Room located on Av. Fidel de Castro Ruz in the Municipality of Belas. 

This suspension will last for a period of six months, in accordance with the applicable legislation, specifically its Organic Statute approved by Presidential Decree No. 290/14, dated October 14.

As a result of this decision, any claims for prize payments or other liabilities related to gaming operations must be reported to the ISJ by the concerned parties.

During the suspension period, Maré Casinos, S.A. is prohibited from conducting any activities related to gaming operations.

There are currently 26 valid licenses for Games of Fortune or Chance, 9 licenses for Remote Online Games, and 3 licenses for Social Games in Angola

The Angolan Institute of Gaming Supervision (ISJ) is an independent public entity linked to the Ministry of Finance, responsible for regulating, inspecting, and supervising all gambling activities in the country. 

The ISJ's report for the first quarter of 2024 highlights strong revenue performance, with total collections reaching 4.2 billion kwanzas. The primary contributor to this revenue was odds-based sports betting, both territorial and online.
